Janab Malik Sahab, Salam aalaikum.
This is in reply to your concern about the security threat to our Shahrukh Khan. We appreciate your concern for the minorities in India. But let me also tell you about the status, the respect, the love, the following, the equality they enjoy in India.
Starting with Shahrukh himself, he along with the other two Khans are the undisputed kings of Hindi cinema today and I don't see them being toppled in the next few years at least. Yusuf Khan fondly known as Dilip Kumar, apart from having a huge, huge fan following in India and overseas is a school of acting in himself. Sir, he too is a Muslim. And among the leading ladies, how many names do you want? Nargis, Meena Kumari, Madhubala, Waheeda Rahman, Saira Banu...! Mohammad Rafi, one of the most popular singers of his times, is from the same community. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif Aslam, and many other performers are not just Muslims but Pakistanis too, but look at the popularity and fan following they enjoy in India! And all these names are popular across ages, gender, sections, geographical locations, and yes, faiths, in India.
Tell me of a member of ANY minority community of YOUR country who enjoys the same treatment in YOUR country. Tell me of any performer from India who has been allowed to perform in YOUR country.
Talk of sports. Muslim cricketers have not played a key role in Indian cricket but have also been at the helm, eg Azharuddin, Pataudi. And in hockey, Zafar Iqbal & Md Shahid have led the national teams at international events. Sir, tell me of cricketers from ANY minority community who have made it big in YOUR country? Apart from Danish Kaneria & Anil Dalpat, anyone? And these names too would sound aliens to most. Yusuf Yohana, a Christian, perhaps the only one who made it big but he too converted to Islam mid-way through his career.
Minority community members have not only headed state governments but been honoured as the Head of the State in India. The first was Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed way back in 1975, followed by A P J Abdul Kalam, who was by far the most popular and humble President this country ever had, before being the head of India's space research organisation. Any one example from you, Sir?
Abdul Hamid has been decorated with the highest gallantry award, the Paramvir Chakra. Sir, any minority names awarded the Nishan-e-Haider? I. H. Latif had risen to become the Air Chief Marshal (the highest rank in the Indian Air Force). And many more names who have risen to the 2nd and 3rd highest ranks in the three armed forces. I am waiting for answers from you.
Hidayatullah, Hamid Beg and A M Ahmadi have been Chief Justices of the Supreme Court of India. And there are many other names who have served as the hon'ble judges of the Supreme Court. Sir, please enhance my GK by telling me of some instances in YOUR country.
Sir, here some state governments are talking about special privileges like reservation in promotion to the Muslim community (right or wrong is the subject for another debate). And in YOUR very own country, some of your own brethren are treated as second grade citizens for being Muhajirs.
The categories could be many, the list endless. So Mr Malik, request you to please mind your own business, protect your own people, and guard your own turf which is being blasted every now and then by those patronised by your own government. And please also get treated for your 'foot-in-the-mouth' ailment whose symptoms we are subjected to so often in media . As far as we are concerned, we know how to take care of our own people irrespective of which faith they belong to.
Unsincerely,
DJ
